Removal
WARNING:
The following procedure prescribes critical repair steps
required for correct restraint system operation during a crash. Follow
all notes and steps carefully. Failure to follow step instructions may
result in incorrect operation of the restraint system and increases the
risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
WARNING:
Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats equipped
with seat side airbags cannot be repaired. A new trim cover must be
installed. Cleaning is permissible. Failure to follow these instructions
may result in the seat side airbag deploying incorrectly and increase
the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
NOTE:
LHD driver seat shown, all others similar.

WARNING:
Before beginning any service procedure in this
manual, refer to health and safety warnings in section 100-00 General
Information. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious
personal injury.
Refer to: Pyrotechnic Device Health and Safety Precautions (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).

Remove the front seat.
Refer to: Front Seat (501-10A Front Seats, Removal and Installation).
Driver seat with manual lumbar

Adjust the manual lumbar to the fully relaxed position.

If equipped with manual recline.
Remove the clip and the recline handle.
-
If equipped with manual height adjuster.
Release the retaining tab and remove the height adjuster handle.
-
Release the retainer and remove the lumbar adjuster handle.
-
-
Remove the screw.
-
Lift the rear of the side shield up and out.
-
Slide forward and if equipped with a manual seat track, remove the side shield.
-
If equipped with a power seat.
Position the front seat control switch support bracket aside.

Detach the front seat control switch wiring harness.
-
Remove the screws.
-
If equipped with power seat.
Disconnect the electrical connectors and for a power seat track, remove the side shield.

Detach the lumbar adjuster cable retainer.
-
Detach the lumbar adjuster cable.
All seats

If equipped with heated seat.
Detach the electrical connector retainers.
-
If equipped with heated seat.
Disconnect the backrest heater mat electrical connector.

Detach the backrest cover straps.
-
Position the backrest cover up.
Driver seat with manual lumbar

Detach the cushion cover rear J-clips.
-
Route the lumbar cable through the cushion cover.
All seats

Position the backrest cover aside.
-
Release the backrest cover J-clip.
-
Route the lumbar cable (if equipped) and wiring harness(es) through the backrest cover openings.

NOTE:
Follow the unique instructions or graphic for this step in the installation.
Invert the backrest cover and remove the hog rings.

Detach the J-clips.
-
Invert the backrest cover to access the deployment chute.
-
-
Disengage the deployment chute retainer tab.
-
Squeeze the ends of the deployment chute together and open the deployment chute.
-

Pull the deployment chute out from between the backrest foam and side airbag.
-
Invert the backrest cover to access the side airbag.

NOTE:
This step is only necessary when installing a new part.
Remove the side airbag nuts.
Torque:
80 lb.in (9 Nm)

NOTE:
Side airbag with rear seat side airbag shown, without rear seat side airbag similar.
NOTE:
This step is only necessary when installing a new part.

Position the side airbag out of the backrest foam pocket.
-
Disconnect and remove the side airbag electrical connector.
Installation
WARNING:
Incorrect repair techniques or actions can cause an
accidental Supplemental Restraint System deployment. Make sure the
restraint system is depowered before reconnecting the component. Refer
to the Supplemental Restraint System depowering General Procedure in
section 501-20B. Failure to precisely follow depowering instructions
could result in serious personal injury from an accidental deployment.

WARNING:
Inspect the seat side airbag, airbag cavity,
mounting surface and deployment chute for damage or the presence of
foreign material. Remove all foreign material. Install a new side airbag
if it is damaged. Install a new deployment chute if the deployment
chute is damaged. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the
seat side airbag deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious
personal injury or death in a crash.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
