Removal
NOTE:

Release the fuel system pressure.
Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release (310-00C Fuel System - General
Information - 2.0L Duratec-HE (129kW/175PS), General Procedures).

Drain the fuel tank.
Refer to: Fuel Tank Draining (310-00C Fuel System - General Information - 2.0L Duratec-HE (129kW/175PS), General Procedures).

Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.
-
Remove the retainers and the heat shield.
-
Remove and discard the front flange clamp.
Torque:
18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
-
Remove and discard the rear muffler flange clamp.
Torque:
18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
-
Detach the isolators and remove the rear muffler assembly.
-
Detach the isolators and remove the front muffler pipe assembly.
-
Remove the driveshaft.
Refer to: Driveshaft (205-01)
.

NOTE:
Some residual fuel may remain in the fuel lines
after releasing the fuel system pressure. When disconnecting or removing
any fuel lines, carefully drain any residual fuel into a suitable
container.

Disconnect the fuel tube quick release coupling and detach the fuel tube routing retaining clip.
Refer to: Quick Release Coupling (310-00I)

Detach the parking brake cable routing retainer.
-
Disconnect the quick release coupling.
Refer to: Quick Release Coupling (310-00I)

Disconnect the fuel vapor return tube quick release couplings.
Refer to: Quick Release Coupling (310-00I)
.

Disconnect the RDU electrical connector.
-
Detach the wiring harness retainers.
-
-
Disconnect the RDU housing vent tube.
-
Detach the RDU housing vent tube routing retainer.
-
NOTE:
Position a transmission jack under the subframe before removing the subframe bolts.
Remove the subframe bolts.
Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
Torque:
59 lb.ft (80 Nm)
-
Lower the subframe assembly enough to gain access to the fuel tank.
Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

Remove the fuel tank strap bolts.
Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
Use the General Equipment: Retaining Strap
-
Lower the fuel tank enough to gain access to the vapor tubes.
Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
Use the General Equipment: Retaining Strap

Disconnect the electrical connectors.
-
Disconnect the quick release coupling and remove the fuel tube.
Refer to: Quick Release Coupling (310-00I)

Loosen the clamp and remove the hose.
Torque:
35 lb.in (4 Nm)
-
Detach the fuel vapor tube from the molded slot in the fuel tank.
-

Lower the front of the fuel tank.

Installation

NOTE:
Before installing the fuel tank, make sure the vapor tubes are routed properly on top of the fuel tank.
Install the fuel tank and tighten the bolts in sequence shown.
Torque:
18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
