Removal

  1. Remove the PTU/transfer case.
    Refer to: Transfer Case (308-07 Transfer Case - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35) .
  1. Remove the PTU cover bolts and PTU cover.
  1. Remove and discard the PTU cover O-ring seal.
  1. Remove the input shaft.
  1. Remove and discard the LH input shaft seal.

Installation

  1. Using the special tools, install a new LH input shaft seal.
    Use Special Service Tool: 308-878  Installer, Input Seal. , 205-153 (T80T-4000-W)  Handle.
  1. Install the input shaft.
  1. Install a new PTU cover O-ring seal.
  1. Install the PTU cover and PTU cover bolts.
    Torque:
      Stage 1:  18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
      Stage 2:  35°
  1. Install the PTU/transfer case.
    Refer to: Transfer Case (308-07 Transfer Case - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35) .

    Removal

    NOTICE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan can cause engine failure.

    Remove the timing chain.
    Refer to: Timing Chain (303-01C Engine - 2.0L Duratec-HE (129kW/175PS), Removal and Installation).
    Remove the bolts and VCT units.
    Discard the bolts.
