Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

Power is routed through the transmission solenoid power control relay (inside the PCM ) to all transmission solenoids. If the power circuit to the transmission solenoids or the transmission solenoid power control relay fails open, all solenoids are failed electrically off. Check for open, short to ground or the transmission connector disconnected. The transmission solenoid power control relay disables power to the transmission solenoids when certain transmission diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are set.

  • Carry out KOEO and KOER procedures.
  • Retrieve and record all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
  • Repair all non-transmission diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first.
  • Repair all transmission diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) second.
  • Clear all continuous codes and attempt to repeat them.
  • Repair all continuous codes.
  • If only pass codes are obtained, REFER to: Diagnosis By Symptom (307-01B Automatic Transmission - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission – 6F35, Diagnosis and Testing).
    for further information and diagnosis.

Follow the diagnostic sequence to diagnose and repair the concern the first time.

The PCM applies and releases the various clutches in the transmission by actuating the shift solenoids in the solenoid body. SSA is a Variable Force Solenoid (VFS).

Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 30 for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The TFT sensor is located in the transmission internal wiring harness frame. The resistance value of the TFT sensor varies with temperature change. The PCM monitors the voltage drop across the TFT sensor to determine the temperature of the transmission fluid. When the ignition is turned to the run position, the PCM uses this initial input signal to determine whether a cold start shift schedule is necessary. The cold start shift schedule allows delayed shifts when the transmission fluid is cold. The PCM inhibits TCC operation at low transmission fluid temperatures and adjusts line pressure to temperature.

If the transmission fluid level is low or overfilled or there are any restrictions in the transmission lines, hoses (If vehicle is equipped with external lines or hoses) or cooler it may affect the transmission fluid pump operation.

PINPOINT TEST X: DTC P0752, P0757, P0762, P0767, P0772

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The PCM monitors clutch applications. It sets a DTC if it detects a non-electrical shift solenoid or clutch fault. The customer may experience erratic vehicle operation when this DTC sets.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
PCM P0752:00 Shift Solenoid 'A' Stuck On: No Sub Type Information DTC P0752 is a non-electrical failure indicating the forward clutch stayed applied when SSA was de-energized. When this DTC sets the failsafe logic disables all gears that operate when the forward clutch is off, which only allows 1st through 4th gears.
PCM P0757:00 Shift Solenoid 'B' Stuck On: No Sub Type Information DTC P0757 is a non-electrical failure indicating the direct clutch stayed applied when SSB was de-energized. When this DTC sets the failsafe logic disables all gears that operate when the direct clutch is off, which only allows reverse, 3rd, and 5th gears.
PCM P0762:00 Shift Solenoid 'C' Stuck On: No Sub Type Information DTC P0762 is a non-electrical failure indicating the intermediate clutch stayed applied when SSC was de-energized. When this DTC sets the failsafe logic disables all gears that operate when the intermediate clutch is off, which only allows 2nd and 6th gears.
PCM P0767:00 Shift Solenoid 'D' Stuck On: No Sub Type Information DTC P0767 is a non-electrical failure indicating the overdrive clutch stayed applied when SSD was de-energized. When this DTC sets the failsafe logic disables all gears that operate when the overdrive clutch is off, which only allows 4th through 6th gears.
PCM P0772:00 Shift Solenoid 'E' Stuck On: No Sub Type Information DTC P0772 is a non-electrical failure indicating shift solenoid E is stuck in the on position. When this DTC sets the failsafe logic disables all gears that operate when shift solenoid E is off. Shift solenoid E controls the multiplexing of the low/reverse clutch and the overdrive clutch. If the solenoid fails on (pressure) then, 1st and 2nd gear are the only available gears. 3rd and 4th gears are failed to 1st gear, 5th gear is failed to neutral, and 6th gear is a tie-up. If the clutch bypass valve sticks in the spring-compressed position, the same ratio pattern will occur. This DTC indicates either: SSE mechanically failed on (pressure) or the clutch bypass valve is stuck in spring compressed position.
