Removal

  1. NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

    If installing a new PCM , connect a battery charger to the battery to make sure it is charged to maintain proper battery voltage.
    Refer to: Battery Charging (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
  1. NOTE: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) installation DOES NOT require new keys or programming of keys, only a Parameter Reset of the PATS .

    NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Download the module information to the diagnostic tool using the Programmable Modules Installation routine.
    Refer to: Module Configuration - System Operation and Component Description (418-01 Module Configuration, Description and Operation).

  1. Remove the PCM cover.
  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  1. Remove the nuts and the PCM .
    Torque: 89 lb.in ( 10 Nm)

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Upload the module information from the diagnostic tool using the Programmable Modules Installation routine. Use the General Equipment: Ford Diagnostic Equipment

  1. NOTE: The step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Reprogram the PATS
    Refer to: Anti-Theft Key Programming - Scan Tool (419-01B Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) - Vehicles Without: Keyless Entry and Push Button Start, General Procedures).
    Refer to: Key Programming Using Two Programmed Keys (419-01C Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) - Vehicles With: Keyless Entry and Push Button Start, General Procedures).
  1. NOTE: The step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    After completing the repairs, perform the Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure.
