Ford Ecosport: Automatic Transmission - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission – 6F35 / Removal and Installation - Main Control Cover

Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
    Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
  1. Remove the fan motor and shroud.
    Refer to: Cooling Fan Motor and Shroud (303-03C Engine Cooling - 2.0L Duratec-HE (129kW/175PS), Removal and Installation).
  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.
    Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe (303-12C Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 2.0L Duratec-HE (129kW/175PS), Removal and Installation).
  1. Disconnect the wiring harness retainers.
  1. If equipped, remove the bolts and the underbody shield.
  1. Disconnect the wiring harness retainers and the transmission electrical connector.
  1. Disconnect the wiring harness retainer and the TSS sensor electrical connector.
  1. NOTE: If an internal problem is suspected, drain the transmission fluid through a paper filter. A small amount of metal or friction particles may be found from normal wear. If an excessive amount of metal or friction material is present, the transmission will need to be overhauled.


    Remove the transmission fluid drain plug and allow the transmission fluid to drain.
    • Install the transmission fluid drain plug when finished.
      Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)
  1. NOTE: Note the location of the stud bolts for assembly.

    Remove the bolts, stud bolts and the main control cover.

Installation

  1. Inspect the transmission main control cover seal for damage and install new if necessary.
  1. NOTE: Install the stud bolts in the locations noted during disassembly.

    Install the main control cover, the bolts and the stud bolts.
    Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)
  1. Connect the wiring harness retainer and the TSS sensor electrical connector.
  1. Connect the wiring harness retainers and the transmission electrical connector.
  1. If equipped, install the underbody shield and the bolts.
  1. Connect the wiring harness retainers.
  1. Install the fan motor and shroud.
    Refer to: Cooling Fan Motor and Shroud (303-03C Engine Cooling - 2.0L Duratec-HE (129kW/175PS), Removal and Installation).
  1. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe.
    Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe (303-12C Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 2.0L Duratec-HE (129kW/175PS), Removal and Installation).
  1. Fill the transmission with transmission fluid.
    Refer to: Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill (307-01B Automatic Transmission - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission – 6F35, General Procedures).

    NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

    Remove the wheel knuckle.

    Remove the rear toe adjustment retainers and remove the wheel knuckle mounting bracket.
    Torque:
      Stage 1:  177 lb.in (20 Nm)
      Stage 2:  76 lb.ft (103 Nm)
